Summer World
Summer in Lech am Arlberg
In summer the geography turns around: what was a ski area becomes a network of trails, and Zug is suddenly no longer at the edge but at the beginning. The Zugertal starts at the front door of the BALMA and leads into a landscape that in summer is above all one thing: empty enough for undivided attention.
Summer on the Arlberg is the quiet season, and that is precisely its argument. The villages are calm, the trails start at the house, and if you like you can switch from hiking path to bike trail to river in a single day.
This page is the entrance to our summer world: on foot, on two wheels, by the water and among an alpine flora that ranks with the richest of the Eastern Alps.
On Foot
Hiking on the Arlberg is not a discipline, it is the natural state of summer. From the Zugertal the trails range from valley walks to high alpine stages, and the cable cars will take the first climb off your hands if you want. Our hiking article collects the paths we walk ourselves.
On Two Wheels
Above Lech and Zürs waits high alpine terrain with distance, climbs and lines for mountain bikes. If you prefer going down: one cable car, one official trail, 1,400 metres of line and 220 vertical metres. Both start a short ride from the house.
By the Water
The Lech is one of the last wild rivers of the Alps, and fly fishing its cold water may be the most concentrated form of summer: current, light and undivided time. The fish raised in this valley reappears in the kitchen of the house; more on that in the culinary world.
The Flora
Between valley floor and summit, 1,116 plant species grow here. Our botanical portrait explains why this density is no accident, and the weather page tells you whether the day suits it.
Six suites at the start of the Zugertal. In summer, every trail begins at your own door.
